It began at
5:30 on Wednesday night as a street corner protest supporting President
Barak Obama’s healthcare plan. For 90 minutes folks manned three corners
of Main and Warwick in an effort to draw attention to their cause. Folks
waved or honked and, in one case, a police officer flashed the peace
sign.

At 7:30, it
spilled over to a vigil for healthcare on the pier at the James River
and were joined by more folks from Hampton and Newport News. With a
little prodding, Jerry Tenney, sponsor of the event, coaxed folks to
tell their personal stories of challenges with the current healthcare
system. About ten people out of the fifty who came described their own
stories of mistreatment or a total lack of compassion on the part of
providers and insurance companies.
At 8:10, the
vigil peacefully ended.
