Soup Kitchen
The Social Justice Committee has committed to helping at the soup kitchen at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on 34th Street in downtown Newport News. It will be similar to PORT, in that a hot meal is cooked and served, as well as a bag lunch made which the patrons will take with them. We will be helping another church, St. George’s Episcopal Church in Denbigh, with their obligation to the soup kitchen because they are short on the necessary volunteers. They will provide all of the food; our volunteers will cook the food and serve the guests, usually 50 or 60 people. Our intent is to help St. George’s meet their obligation until May and then perhaps make an obligation of our own after we’ve had a chance to get our feet wet.
