Upcoming Sermons

August 1

Jim Sanderson will be doing an "interactive program" about Kung fu-tze (Confucius).

An introductory look at the life and thought of one of the world's great teachers, a man who became a god (much as he would have hated that) and who is once again a living force in his native China. Could he have "sayings" for us?  Later in the service he will speak to you through your own voice if you are among the chosen.

August 8

"500 Mountains Destroyed -- How Many More?" by Sharon Baiocco

Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining (MTR), like offshore oil drilling, compels UUs to put our 7th Principle values into action.  Sharon Baiocco, chair of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church UU Green Sanctuary Task Force, will tell the story of her congregation's commitment to end mountaintop removal coal mining, and why UUs everywhere should care.

Sharon Baiocco leads the Green Sanctuary Task Force at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church UU in Charlottesville. Sharon holds a doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a retired English professor and former dean. She advocated for faith communities before the Virginia Senate for adoption of a "stream saver" bill to protect our water from the toxic waste runoff from mountaintop removal coal mining.
