This Sunday

January 15th: “To question is an answer ... but answers are nice, too!”

— Rev. Andrew Clive Millard

One of our hymns reminds us that, in our search for elusive answers, even to question is an answer.  In religion, in science and in life it’s important to ask good questions, but sometimes it’s nice to have answers!  So send Andrew your questions — by e-mail, on Facebook, by telephone, in person, via pony express — and he’ll endeavor to provide answers!  (Your mileage may vary.) Special music will be provided by Tret Fure!

Children's Focus

Remember long car rides playing 20 Questions? This morning, to go along with Andrew’s sermon “To question is an answer ... but answers are nice, too!” the children will play a round of 20 Questions and see if they can come up with any answers of their own.

Next Sunday

January 22nd: “To Kiss the Ceiling” — High School Youth

Kurt Vonnegut’s short story, “Harrison Bergeron”, depicts a dystopian society, where “equality” has been reached, causing rampant apathy.  Join the high school teens as they discuss the values and repercussions of equality and diversity as they relate to our Unitarian Universalist principles and heritage.  How do we promote equal rights while championing individuality and fostering our own unique gifts?  How do we build equality by lifting people up instead of pushing them down?

This week in kids' Religious Education

At 9:30

In Loves Surrounds Us, Joanne and the children will learn how our religion has a long history surrounded in love. They will make history chains, a time capsule, and hear the story Nathaniel Takes a Ride.

Home Activity: Ask your parents if they kept a baby book for you or photo albums and spend some time looking through them. How much have you changed?

At 11:00

In Spirit Play children will learn the story The Wisest Man in the World with Allison and Marcy. When a tiny bee is in danger he flies to King Solomon and says, “Spare me today, that I may live to serve you tomorrow.” The King replies “I require no service in return.” But one never knows when they just might need a little help from a friend.

Home Activity: Ask your parents if you can help them do something that you used to be too little to do.

Our Love Will Guide Us class will talk about the love of learning and hear the story For the Love of Stars. They will investigate a new constellation and share joys and concerns.

Home Activity: Look up something new in an encyclopedia or other reference book. Share your new found knowledge with a friend.

The Riddle and Mystery class will meet with Brandy to continue session 8, Speaking of Fair. They will go over the song, There is More Love Somewhere, answer the question, Is Nature Fair? And take a look back at past sessions.

Home Activity: Find and article in the newspaper or on the web about someone who has not been treated fairly or a situation that is unfair. Talk about it with your family.

Our former OWL students should come to service through children’s focus and then head to the office building with Joanne for discussion of the Coming of Age program and to play games.

Our Thinking the Web class will finish their work on their upcoming service To Kiss the Ceiling. Jerry will be on hand to answer questions and give suggestions.

New Adult RE Course

By Dr. Raymon McAdaragh

Beginning: January 18th and continuing on February 1st, 15th, March 7th and 21st from 7:00-8:30pm in the main RE room of the Sanctuary building.

Registration: The cost of the course is $10 which includes a copy of Ray’s book on Developmental Harmonization. Please see Joanne to sign up.

Dr. Raymon McAdaragh is an Aerospace Research Psychologist currently employed with NASA under contract, conducting Human-System Integration research for Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

Developmental Harmonization: Course Description

This course describes a process that a group or an individual may follow to achieve a state of Psychic Harmonization (a state of physical, psychological and spiritual harmony). In this state, an individual may discover his or her intended path and purpose in life. Practicing the exercises associated with the Developmental Harmonization process also provides the many health-related benefits associated with meditation and physical exercise. This is something virtually missing in other books on meditation. The techniques are presented in an easily-understandable, practical application that may be practiced by anyone interested in the harmonization of our human condition. During the course, participants will cover the development of the ten objectives of the Developmental Harmonization process, and learn meditative exercises to address each objective.
