From Robin van Tine
Director of Music Committee Annual Report
July 1 2007 through Jun 30, 2008
Activities:
The musical efforts at UUFP continue to be vigorous.
Music for the two services for every Sunday has been planned
in coordination with the minister and/or speaker, and the Sunday
Services Committee to best compliment and reinforce the sermon or
homily. Music includes
original pieces and improvisations created specifically for each
service by Robin van Tine, choral compositions sometimes arranged by
and always directed by the Choir Director, Dan Moore, and
traditional and other musical liturgy, including suggestions from
the Minister. Additionally incidental pieces or music are provided
by our own UUFP musicians.
The usual Sunday service includes 10 min. or so of Ingathering
music, three hymns, offertory, children's recessional, Prelude
(Invitation to Worship), meditation piece, and Postlude.
The Music Director provides most of the music on the piano
and organ, practicing several hours each week and usually arriving
at the Fellowship by 8am and working until 12:10pm or so. The UUFP
ChorUUs under the very capable direction of Dan Moore, performs
approximately once a month, rehearsing an hour & half every week
accompanied by the music director.
The intergenerational choir continues to grow musically under
Dan’s leadership. The
ChorUUs includes: Dan
Moore, Ada van Tine, Lucy van Tine, Mary Faia, Jeane Farthing, Marcy
Stutzman, Steve Yaros, Pat Yaros, Joanne Dingus, Jamie Dingus, Wayne
Dawkins, Alex Borum, Amy Grissom, Daneene
Hoyt, Jay Moore, Donna Sprock, Maya Moore, Carolyn Fureymoore, and
others from time to time.
Dan has also been organizing and rehearsing a Children’s
ChorUUs this year.
Goals:
The Music Director also plans for additional musicians to provide
music for the services for which he will not be present
(approximately 1 Sunday a month from Fall through Spring and about
6-8 Sundays during the Summer).
Other musicians from the Fellowship who have provided music,
and shared their time and talents include:
Steve Yaros, Steve Walk, Carol Millspaw,
Vickie Anderson,
Ethan Farthing, Connie Ralston, Jeffrey Hinkley, Barbara Morgan,
Alan Sheeler, Carrie Sheeler, and Randy Phillips.
It is the intention of the Music Director to continue to
nurture and encourage Fellowship musicians to grow musically and
give of their talents to their spiritual home.
These musicians form our
UUFP MUUsicians Guild.
Alan Sheeler gives of his time and skills to keep the piano in tune.
We will be hiring a repairman to work on the organ before the
end of the fiscal year.
All in all, the music program at UUFP is in good shape and growing.
We continue to add more musicians and more music.
We are proud to fill the Fellowship with live music as much
as possible.
