Making a difference An easy way to make a difference in our UU community and the world community is now here. We can do this through our Share the Basket program, which kicks off on July 4. This simple program will help us to support five non-profit organizations all at the same time! This has been a collaborative effort of the UUFP Policy Board, Council of Committees and the Social Justice Committee.
How
it works Each week from July through December, the Fellowship will split the basket with a different non-profit. Half of all cash and checks (designated as “basket” in the memo line) will be split equally between the Fellowship and that week’s charity. If you put your pledge check in the basket, it will be credited to your pledge.
Who benefits?
Third Sunday
in July through December: LINK. Founded
in 1990 in Newport News by leaders from the
interfaith, civic and business community
with a vision to break the cycle of poverty,
LINK is a nonprofit volunteer organization
that exists to help people help themselves
through education, direct services, advocacy
and outreach programs. To date, more than
100 organizations work collaboratively to
provide unduplicated, coordinated services.

Fourth Sunday in July through December:
A Safe Place
- St. Paul's Episcopal Church's Soup kitchen
A Safe Place is a weekday morning walk-in
program that welcomes, on average, 200
guests each week who are homeless or
substandard housed. Five days a week, St.
Paul’s welcomes homeless and low-income
adults to shelter, and peer counseling
groups. The Weekend Meals - Soup Kitchen
program offers meals for the downtown
community on days when many other local
outreach programs and social services
support offices are closed.
5th Sunday in August
will go to increasing the Minister's
discretionary fund 5th Sunday in October will support our continuing efforts with PORT.
MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES!
Being a member of the UUFP just
accrued another benefit.
The Fellowship has become a member of the
Langley Federal Credit Union, and all members of
the UUFP are thus immediately eligible for
membership in the Credit Union also.
What does that mean for you?
Credit Unions have historically higher
rates on savings and lower rates on loans than
the rates offered by banks.
That can mean money in your pocket!

Thanks again to everyone who turned in their
Farm Fresh receipts during the past school year
(September - May). Thanks to our total, Farm
Fresh gave the RE a cool hand drum set with
multiple instruments as well as a Fun Pack of
playground balls. Wow! Let's try for more this
year. All you have to do is shop at Farm Fresh. Just turn in your grocery receipts to your ABC Program Coordinator (Rachel Bevins) or stick them in the box in the art alcove at the Fellowship (no staples or other receipts, please). At the end of the school year we will get to choose items from a catalog based on how many points we have collected (aka dollars spent). PLEASE NOTE: September is a DOUBLE POINT month. This is an easy way to help the Fellowship. Just save and turn in your receipts - that is it! If you have any questions, please contact Rachel at see-r-b@cox.net. The Farm Fresh ABC's Program allows schools (K-12) and places of worship to save their Farm Fresh receipts and redeem them for FREE educational equipment (Audio-Visual Equipment, Books, Computers and Printers, Software, Sports Equipment and more). This year marks the 10th Anniversary of this great program; over the past 9 years, Farm Fresh has donated over $1.2 million in educational equipment back to the community. |
